EDITOR'S NOTE:
This volume is a special issue of the journal "Lud" published in connection
with the centenary of the Polish Ethnological Society and its journal. It
contains articles, the majority of which were presented as speeches and papers
during the Society's jubilee celebration and the conference "The Past and
Present of Polish Ethnology", held in Wrocław in 9 - 11 September, 1995. We
hope that the articles placed in this volume will help in increasing knowledge
about the historyand
current directions of studies of Polish ethnology
- a "national" ethnology which helps constitute a whole - world ethnology
and socio-cultural anthropology.
